Huma Summer Begins

The kids above our the graduates of the Big Dogg Gang Intervention and Violence Prevention. They wanted to extend their sessions and asked for a summer program. Huma was starting one and we teamed up with Big Dogg and decided to do it together. We started in a scramble but we had to make this happen, too much was aligning. Through persistence and a lot of excitement - we moved forward. Tomorrow is our first day of Huma Summer.

I will drive to 101st street in South Central LA in a big 12 passenger van and Qadir will be waiting for me with 10 kids at the bus stop ready to start the program. Qadir is a Program Director at Big Dogg who has been working with our group for the past 6 months. Qadir came home from prison and intentionally decided to live right in the frying pan to be a mentor for these teens and be an integral leader in his community to teach techniques on Violence Prevention. My soul expands to the size of the whole metropolitan city. I feel such light. We were hustling to find a van to provide a safe passage for the kids and the cost was $498.00. This was way over what we allotted in our budget. And then, 4 days ago, just 4 days before the class starts we get an anonymous donation…for $500. This is only the universal pulsing force of L-O-V-E catapulting us to our goal. I feel so grateful to have this opportunity. I feel so happy to participate in this experience! Huma Summer begins.
